backward-delete-character

Delete the character before point.  Ctrl-h

This command deletes the character before point. When given a numeric argument, the command deletes that many characters, and saves them in a kill buffer.

This command can be set to convert tab characters into spaces before deleting, or to delete multiple spaces at once. See the delete-hacking-tabs variable.
